2003 CONFERENCE PRESENTERS:  

JACK DAVID: Born October 27, 1946, in Regina, Saskatchewan. Has a B.A. in history from UWO and an M.A. in English from Windsor. Has taught English and Book Publishing at Centennial College since 1976. Started the journal Essays on Canadian Writing in 1974, and ECW Press in 1979; ECW has 500 books in print, and has published more books about Canadian writers and their works than any other press. Has edited over 40 anthologies and critical works. Has served as chair of the Literary Press Group, president of the Organization of Book Publishers of Ontario, and on council at the Association of Canadian Publishers. He has served on the Advisory Committee for the Ontario Publishing Centre, and has acted as the main contact for Ontario Publishers about the development and workings of the Ontario Book Publishing Tax Credit program. Recently he represented the Ontario publishers at an OFDC meeting about the newly announced OMDC. He has acted as a mentor for two publishers under the aegis of the ACP, and has served on juries for the Ontario Arts Council, the Manitoba Arts Council, and the Canada Council. Currently resides in Toronto and cottages in Port Bruce. His hobbies include bridge, tennis, and reading books about publishing history.

JENNIFER DECHIARA: Before forming The Jennifer DeChiara Literary Agency in 2001, DeChiara was a literary agent with Perkins, Rubie & Associates and The Peter Rubie Literary Agency.  A New York City-based writer, she has worked in the editorial departments of Simon & Schuster and Random House and has been a writing consultant to several major corporations.  Jennifer is a frequent guest at writers conferences, where she lectures on publishing and the art of writing.

GORDON KIRKLAND: Gordon Kirkland is an syndicated humour columnist whose weekly column appears in newspapers in Canada and the United States. His first book, Justice Is Blind - And Her Dog Just Peed In My Cornflakes (Harbour Publishing, 1999) won the Stephen Leacock Award of Merit for Humour in 2000.  He has written for Writer's Digest and many other publications,  accumulating over 2500 publication credits in the past ten years. He is a frequent guest on radio and TV programs in both Canada and the United States and has made over 100 live appearances in over 60 cities in the last four years. Gordon has taught at the Victoria School of Writing, Simon Fraser University's Writing and Publishing Program and at dozens of writers conferences in North America. He is the first Canadian humourist to be added to the faculty of the prestigious University of Dayton (Ohio) Erma Bombeck Writer's Workshop.

LYLE WEIS:
Lyle is the author of four young adult novels and a mainstream collection of poetry.  He is currently at work on a second collection of poetry, an historical novel for young adults, and a crime thriller.  He is also busy as a convention speaker and creative writing instructor for students of all ages.  A former public school and university teacher, he holds a Ph.D. in English literature.  He lives in Edmonton and is pleased to return to the Okanagan, where he once lived as a boy.

JAYME PFAHL: Jayme Pfahl has been involved with Crescent Entertainment since its inception.  A versatile and skillful manager of both people and money, Jayme handles the administration of Crescent.  He has worked in various executive capacities on all of Crescent's projects, including Showdown at Williams Creek, Kurt Vonnegut's Welcome to the Monkey House, Lightning Force, and the Neverending Story II + Ill.

Jayme was the Associate Producer on the Crescent/ABC Productions MOW, Other Women's Children, and of the CBC/Alliance MOW, Frostfire.  He has also completed work on four MOW's as Co-Producer on She Stood Alone: The Tailhook Scandal for ABC/Symphony Pictures, When the Vows Break for Crescent/Marian Rees & Associates/Lifetime and Victor Television, and Ebbie for Crescent/Lifetime and Victor Television, and as Producer on Beauty's Revenge for NBC/Steve White Productions.  He was Executive Producer on Naked Frailties and was the Supervising Producer on the Discovery Channel documentary series Storm Warning for Great North Pacific Media Limited.    Jayme was Co-Producer on the feature film Marine Life and was Post Production Supervisor on Shutterspeed.

Jayme was Supervising Producer on several series and one hour specials such as Alpha Male, Derailed, On The Inside, Without Warning, When Fun Turns to Fear and Gizmos for The Discovery Channel and The Learning Channel.  Jayme was the Executive Producer on the documentaries K-9 Corrections and MockStars. 

Recently, Jayme produced the new reality television series No Boundaries for Global Television and The WB Network.  Currently he is Executive Producing the romantic comedy/feature film Moving Malcolm, written, starring and directed by Ben Ratner (Last Wedding, Looking for Leonard, 19 Months) which will have it�s world premiere at the Montreal Film Festival. Moving Malcolm also stars Elizabeth Berkley (Roger Dodger, Curse of the Jade Scorpion, Any Given Sunday, Showgirls) and John Neville (Spider, Sunshine, The Fifth Element, X-Files).

Additionally, Jayme is actively involved in the Development slate for Crescent.  This entails both raising financing to working directly with various writers, directors and producers in order to develop a feature script or a television project to the stage that it is ready for production.  Currently Crescent has 8 television series and/or mini-series and 7 feature films in active development.

JACK GODWIN: The organizational force behind The Kettle Valley Brakemen,  Jack writes the songs, sings lead vocals and spins the historical stories that connect each tune.  An eighteen year veteran Social Studies teacher, Jack is now a musician and actor living in Naramata.  He also plays in the blues/folk trio "Local Talent".
