2002 Conference
PENTICTON - Penticton Writers and Publishers (PWAP) is again ready to bring Okanagan writers the unique opportunity of visiting the literary and film hubs of New York, Vancouver and Hollywood without even leaving the valley. This fall, the group will present the second annual Penticton Writer's Conference 2002.
Last years conference in Penticton was a wonderful success where local writers received feed back from a top US Literary Agent Natasha Kern, insider information from the Gemini award winning producer Arvi Liimateinen as well as wonderful inspiration from the multi award winning Romance Writer, Jo Beverly.
At The Penticton Writers' Conference 2002, to be held at the Ramada Inn on Highway 97 in Penticton, on Saturday September 28th, Okanagan Valley writers will have the unique opportunity to participate in workshops from four well respected and knowledgeable professionals;

Peter Rubie - a Literary Agent from New York. He is also an author, editor, and teacher. He is the President of The Peter Rubie Literary Agency and regularly lectures and writes on the craft of writing fiction and non-fiction for magazines, publishers and universities. Mr. Rubie is the adjunct professor at NYU and is the Director of their Summer Publishing Institute.

Sheila Hanahan - the director of development for Zide/Perry Entertainment. Her multi-faceted role includes developing ideas for spec scripts as well as seeking up-and-coming screenwriters. Her credits with Zide/Perry include, American Pie I & II, Final Destination I & II. As well as working on such films as; My Best Friends Wedding, Independence Day, and Lost In Space. Zide/Perry Entertainment is comprised of two primary divisions, Zide/Perry Films and Zide Management, and has launched numerous careers of up-and-coming screenwriters and directors.

Michael Katz the Publisher of Tradewind Books, a Children's book publisher (Children's Picture books and YA novels), with offices in Canada, the U.S.A and England. Michael Katz also teaches 2 short courses at UBC; one on fiction and other on Children's Books.

Larry Campbell , a retired Vancouver coroner and now working as a script writer/consultant for the multi Gemini award winning Television network series, Da Vinci's Inquest, and Frank Borg, an award winning writer of screenplays, television scripts and plays. Larry Campbell and Frank Borg will bring their non-fiction and fiction script writing expertise to the conference.
The Conference is a full day affair beginning with registration 8 am, and will include an address by a keynote speaker. There will be six morning and afternoon workshops given by the four guests speakers. Workshops include; "The Business of Publishing", "How to pitch to Hollywood.", "Children's Book Workshop" and "Fate, Zen and the Art of Dog Writing".
For budding screenwriters there are also one-on-one pitch sessions with Sheila Hanahan. For Children's Book writers there will be one-on-one sessions with Michael Katz. Peter Rubie, has asked writers to bring their manuscript to workshop with Peter for critique and feedback.
The Conference will run from 8am -5:30pm, Saturday, September 28th, 2002. Writers, don't miss this unique opportunity to hear seasoned advice from some of the world's top literary and film professionals.
Those wishing to attend and be eligible to enter the fiction, non-fiction, screenplay and children's fiction writing must register by July 31st, 2001 to get the early bird Registration Fee of $150.00. After July 31st, the price will be $175.00. This includes; a keynote speaker, morning and afternoon workshops, breakfast, lunch, a late afternoon wine and cheese.
